Cutlery Set Contents

Cutlery is at the heart of the dining experience, being used every mealtime and during food-related events. So it's no surprise that finding the right cutlery set for your needs is an important decision and one which can make a dining experience that extra bit special.

What's included in a cutlery set?

Depending on the size and pattern, cutlery sets may include slightly different individual pieces that are suited to a variety of dining tables. Larger cutlery sets typically come packaged in a beautifully designed wooden canteen, perfect for gifts and special occasions. As well as this, all Viners cutlery is crafted using the finest stainless steel, enabling each cutlery piece to last a lifetime.

Below we'll explore each piece of cutlery you can expect to find across the Viners range of cutlery sets.

Table Knife

The table knife is used for everyday place settings. It is placed on the right-hand side of the setting, and the knife blade should be facing toward the plate. The knife usually has a rounded edge with a slight sharpness, designed to cut prepared and cooked food.

Another kind of knife is the dessert knife, which is usually smaller than the table knife. The dessert knife is used in a formal place setting and is laid next to the table knife.

Table Fork

The table fork is used for everyday place settings and is placed on the left-hand side of the setting. The table fork is generally used to eat main dishes and is designed for use with a variety of foods such as pasta, meat and vegetables.

Another kind of fork is the dessert fork, which is usually smaller than the table fork. The dessert fork is used in a formal place setting and is laid to the left of the table fork.

Dessert Spoon

The dessert spoon is a similar size to a soup spoon; however, it features an oval bowl rather than a round one. The use of a dessert spoon can differ, but it is specifically used for eating desserts and can be used to eat soups or cereals. The dessert spoon is located above the plate or bowl in a traditional place setting. Sometimes diners will use a teaspoon or cake fork to eat a dessert.

Teaspoon

The teaspoon is the smallest spoon in the cutlery range and is often added to finish the place setting, even if it has no use for a particular meal. The primary use of a teaspoon is for stirring cups of tea and coffee, but it can also be used as a tool for measuring. Longer handled teaspoons can also double up as a dessert spoon.

Soup Spoon

The soup spoon is part of a formal place setting and is placed on the right side to the right of the knife. The soup spoon has a deep, circular bowl which is perfect for holding liquid such as soup (as the name suggests).

Table Spoon

The table spoon is the largest spoon in the cutlery range. It is not part of a place setting and is used for preparing and serving food.
